Now Grandma Is Making Hashbrowns With Jesus

That's what Jeff said to make everyone smile after her service.

Unfortunatly, we were unable to vote on Tuesday, we were in Iowa at Grandma Inez's funeral. It was a nice service and I got to meet Jeff's mother's side of the family. It was sad, knowing grandma wouldn't be here anymore to talk to, but now she's having dance parties and making her famous shipwreck pancakes for everyone in Heaven.

The trip would not be complete without a little weather drama. It was a no brainer it would be cold and snowy, but the forcast predicted good weather. Not the case. Tuesday it dipped down to -6 and we were what the farmers call a "white out", where the wind blows so strong that it stirs up the snow so much you can't even see past your car. Grandma's funeral was cut short and the buriel was canceled. With the snow and wind, ice and wind chill of -25 , roads were closed for travel because even the snow plows couldn't work in that kind of weather.

We waited it out at the hotel until about 3AM when the wind died and Bud could see a plow off in the distance. We packed up and headed to Cedar Rapids, a 5 hour drive, so that Jeff and I could catch our flight. Bud and Sharon then turned around to go back to Stom Lake to see if they could finish the service that day.

Jeff thinks grandma planned it so that we could all snuggle together for just a little while longer. Something she loved to to do.

What The F Is Wrong With People?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

This was on msnbc.com this morning. This is a sad and disgusting example of just how heartless, cruel and narrow minded people can be. As a Christian, I am appalled by this.

Church plans to protest Ledger’s memorial
Actor’s role in ‘Brokeback’ calls ‘God a liar,’ radical group claims

"He (Heath Ledger) got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it's OK to be gay," said Shirley Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church of the actor's role in "Brokeback Mountain." The radical religious group plans to protest Ledger's funeral.

The radical Baptist church known for picketing the funerals of American soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq has announced that they intend to protest Heath Ledger’s stateside memorial service because he played a gay character in “Brokeback Mountain.”

“You cannot live in defiance of God. He (Ledger) got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it's OK to be gay,” said Shirley Phelps in a statement sent out by the Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church.

The only compelling reason to ignore Westboro Baptist’s reprehensible intentions is that highlighting the vast inappropriateness of their thoughts and actions only brings the church more publicity. However, if the members of Westboro Baptist get to speak their minds, every individual who feels that this is an affront to most basic standards of human ethics should be able to as well.

“Wow, that should make his family feel great,” one person close to Ledger said angrily in response to the announcement. “I seriously don’t understand what is wrong with people. This is the last thing his family needs.”

Heath Ledger, 1979-2008The actor, who was Oscar nominated for “Brokeback Mountain,” died at age 28. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) told me, “We sincerely hope that Heath Ledger is laid to rest and his family is allowed to grieve in a private and peaceful ceremony.”

On Jan. 22, GLAAD said that “Heath Ledger will forever be remembered for his groundbreaking role as Ennis del Mar in ‘Brokeback Mountain.’ His powerful portrayal changed hearts and minds in immeasurable ways.” Those close to Ledger agree. But moreover, those close to him want Ledger to be remembered as a man who loved his family and appreciated the career he’d had.
To be fair, the people of the Westboro Baptist Church aren’t the only ones displaying poor taste. Fox News’ John Gibson on Jan. 22 opened his radio show with funeral music and mocked a signature line from “Brokeback,” saying, “Well, he found out how to quit you.” (When Gibson was contacted to explain his comments, he declined.)

Grandma Inez

This morning while getting ready for work, Jeff's mom called with the sad news that Grandma Inez passed away this morning.

She went in her sleep, she went in peace, dreaming of her loved ones and happier times.

I will miss Grandma Inez, we'll all miss her. She was quite the lady and a hell of a dancer.

I Got Him So Good!

For our anniversary, Jeff and I promised each other no gifts because we got the Springsteen tickets. But, I still wanted to do something special.

Every year since our wedding night, we celebrated the date with pizza. It's become our tradition. Jeff wanted to do something a little more special then pizza this year. Being a fan of tradition, i had to be creative.

I called our favorite restaurant, Harmoni. We eat there all the time and we're known pretty well (we even got an email from them when the hadn't seen us because we were on vacation). I asked if there was any way possible if the chef could make us pizza. It's not on the menu, nothing even close because it's not that kind of a place (you can easily drop $200.00 for dinner). They said they will make it work.

We arrived Friday night and it was packed. Jeff was hoping they could seat us, but it was about an hour wait. When we walked in, we were greeted and seated at our usual table they had reserved for us in the wine nook. From there the courses were already planned and served along with a wine chosen. Then, came the entree, a pizza! Jeff was floored (so were some patrons)!. It was very sweet. It was awesome they went out of their way to take care of us. Then dessert, then home where Jeff gave me a beautiful necklace from Tiffany's. Just the blue box made me giddy.

Jeff had to work the whole weekend with Otronicon, so I painted the bedroom and the new bed arrived on Monday. The room looks great, I wish it always looked this good.

So all in all it was a fantastic anniversary (sorry stupid Otronicon had to but in). The best part was just spending time with Jeff. I don't need anything else in the world, well maybe pizza.

Happy Anniversary!

Five years ago today I said "I do" to the most wonderful man on earth.

I can honestly say, in the five years we have been married and nine years together, we have never had a fight, exchanged more kisses than words and every conversation began and ended with an "I love you".

I am the luckiest girl alive.

Roller Derby

That's how I view our bedroom.

All the furniture is moved out and since it's this wide open space with hardwood floors, all I want to do is roller skate in there.

It's going to look really nice. Painting will commence Saturday. The new color is a navy blue and the bedding I ordered arrived, a striped egg shell color. I have the pictures for the walls completed (we're doing a 40's pin up deal) that will hang on red ribbon. With the dark wood furniture, it's will look sweet!

Now I just need to get steps for Doris since she already has a hard time getting in bed, I can only imagine what her deal will be with a king size pillow top. Which, by the way will be delivered on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whew!

Now that the holidays are over, life can move on.

We had a nice New Years with dinner at Harmoni (they did a fixed menu with wine pairing for each course), then to our favorite watering hole, Wally's, then home to watch the ball drop with the babies.

Everyone in the Stanford bunch had a nice holiday. We had Christmas Eve service, then Bud's famous chili. Christmas day Jeff and I slept in, then I made him his Christmas breakfast. We exchanged a few little gifts then spent the rest of the day with his parents where they surprised us with a much needed king size bed!

So now I am planning the new master bedroom. Painting, furniture moving and new wall art will be involved, I can't wait to get this project rolling. Jeff will be knee deep in media obligations for Otronicon this month, so he will be out of the house allowing me to go crazy. I already have the bedding ordered! I'm so excited!

Our 5th wedding anniversary is coming up. We have had the tradition of pizza in bed every year, but we might do something a little different for the 5th. Our anniversary falls on the opening weekend of Otronicon (thanks OSC), so it leaves very little time for anything crazy special. As long as I have Jeff with me, we can have crackers on the street corner, I don't care. I just need him.

That's about it for now.
