Pet Fair

It's back! Jeff's favorite time to be a PR dude. He LOVES outdoor community festivals, screaming kids and hundreds of dogs under his nose. With the exception of George Lucas.

Speaking of the boy, George Lucas was on TV again as the spokesdog for Pet Fair on Fox yesterday morning. This is the only time I turn into a stage mom. Cavanaugh held the honor for a few years, now George Lucas has taken the honor. He looked so good on TV and so well behaved!

Gotta Love The Three Day Weekends

Thank you, dead presidents!

Saturday Jeff and I met up with one of his former interns who is thinking of moving back to Orlando. She went to NYC to work on Broadway doing publicity for theater, she has acomplished what she wanted, now she is ready for sunny days and bigger digs. We had breakfast at Harmoni, this new wine and gormet food shop. We just love it. After our nibble, we scored two bottles of wine and the last of their tomatoe bisque soup to take home. That evening we went to Universal to see Huey Lewis and The News for Universals version of Mardi Gras. I can't stand theme parks anymore, and I could care less about the parade, I just wanted to see Huey and his boys preform and they put on quite a show!

Sunday we had an easy morning and then took George to Park Avenue for a new toy at his favorite shop, Bull Fish. It was his birthday on Valentines Day, but celebrating was help off for the weekend. They love him at Bull Fish and George loves to pick out a toy from the bins. After, we walked down to 310 for a glass of wine and some dessert. George enjoyed watching people and then napping under Jeff's chair.

On Monday Jeff had to work, so I had lunch with Meg and enjoyed the day off. This is the time of year to be in Florida. Eveyday it was 65 outside, all sun and not a cloud in the sky!

Poop

http://www.orlandoweekly.com/columns/story.asp?id=11333
Speaking of poop, we got a small white package wrapped in a frilly green ribbon in our mailbox last week, and it turned out to be the single coolest press release in the history of press releases: a piece of dog poop!
Not real dog poop from a reader, though that would have been even cooler. This was rubber dog poop from our friends at the Orlando Science Center, announcing their latest endeavor, “Animal Grossology.” It seems that displaying sliced and diced Chinese dudes - aka the “Our Body” show - was only the beginning. Drop by this new exhibit and learn all about animal ickiness: dookie-lovers, blood-slurpers, vomit-munchers and slime-makers. It runs through April 29.
If the science center’s next exhibit is “The History of Boobs” or something like it, our suspicion that the place has been taken over by teenage boys will be confirmed.

***** Jeff has gotten a shout out's before on his press releases, but I deserve full props for the poop idea. I should start charging OSC a fee!

WOO HOO!

Jeff and I delivered almost 500 pounds of food to the Lake County Animal Services to help the pets affected by the tornados. Right now Animal Services and the Humane Society of Lake County have well over 100 displaced pets and some livestock. The food will be delivered Tuesday to the diaster site for the pets not yet rescued, the shelter and to families who are holding on to their pets. Checks that were written will help with vet care, food and housing.

George Lucas also had a blast doing his annual SPCA Paws in the Park walk. He loves all the attention, and of course, the cause.

But after a day of pet rescue, Jeff and I got all pretty for the annual Heart Ball. Being a non profit wife, we get invited to some pretty cool dinners, receptions and whatever, but this was by far the most fabulous. Everyone was dressed for a first class Titanic dinner. We looked pretty bitchin in our formal wear, but Jeff was so hot in his tux. The food was fabulous, and our table was right in front of the dance floor and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra (his grandson). We didn't win any of our silent auction bids, but during the live auction, a friend at our table scored.

Sunday we were back to our old selves. And now Monday, it's back to work.

A Day For The SPCA

Tomorrow Jeff and I will take George Lucas for the annual Paws in the Park fundraiser for the Central Florida SPCA, then we're off to the Lake County SPCA/Humane Society to drop off the donations of pet food and money I collected from work to help the displaced pets from the tornados last week.

I must say, the people I work with really pulled through. I sent one little email, and yesterday I broght home a car load of food and an envelope of checks and cash. The cash will be used at Costco tonight for more food. I can't wait to make the delivery!

On a sad note, the SPCA of Seminole County had a fire yesterday killing 32 cats and 7 dogs, but they were able to rescue 273. They will also be accepting donations of blankets, crates, pet shampoo, food and money, if you can help. They are a no kill shelter who never turn any animal away so please give them a hand. You can find out more information or make a donation online at www.ohs-spca.org.

RIP Anna Nicole

She passed away today. How weird?!

Say what you want about her, but I always thought she was entertaining. The sad thing is, is that she has left a newborn behind.

If you go on some of the websites like CNN and MSNBC where you can read comments, people are saying things like she was a looser who had it coming, a waste and stuff like that. Now, I never knew her nor do I also believe you should say nice things about a person because they're dead, but how can you personally judge a person based on their public life? Nobody is perfect. We all have skeletons in our closet and remember, people could say the same thing about you!

On that note, I am going to step off my soap box.

Busy Weekend

Friday night I found out we are going to the annual Heart Ball this Saturday. I thought it was cocktail attire. No prob, right? Nope, it's black tie and formal. Shit.

It's not that easy to find a tux and a nice formal and have it tailored all in a week, but I did it! I found out it was much easier to buy Jeff a tux than to just rent one. I found his tux and my formal in under two hours.

He was working a little bit on Saturday, so I went to his office for him to try it one and it fit perfect. Now the challenge was to get the alterations done on my formal.

I found a black satin floor lengh gown with a three tiered back and satin buttons. It has a halter style top and matching wrap. Since I'm not six feet tall and the highest heels I can wear are three inchers, I had to have about four inches taken off the bottom. The top will fit fine, I just need to have the neck strap shortened a little. It would have taken 10 days at our usual place to have it done, but I found a little Chinese guy, very nice, who can have it ready for me by tomorrow!

We also had dinner with Liz, Andrew and Bebe Saturday night. Sunday was yard work (tricky because it's been raining so it's grown, but it is dry season, so if you cut it and the rain stops, it could turn brown), so I cut and timmed. It looks pretty nice!

We went to a Super Bowl party and Mandi and Glen's. I rooted for the Bears. The rain made for an interesting game. We went home for half time and then finished the evening with Puppy Bowl.
