Our Little George Lucas

Jeff and I adopted a puppy last weekend. We named him George Lucas.

George is a Puggle, which is a mix of Pug and Beagle (or as we used to call them, muts). He's part of this new thing of mixing good breeds for a designer mut. You'll find Puggles in pet stores next to the Maltipoos, Bassadors and Labadoodles for between $900.00 and $1200.00.

George was purchased from a breeder in Missouri by a local pet store. A woman with serious emotional and mental problems bought him for $900.00. After two weeks, she turned him in to the shelter because she couldn't handle a puppy, claiming he was to hyper and had problems.

We found George on the shelters website and put in an application online to adopt him. Last Saturday we met with the shelter people to complete the adoption. After four hours of them telling us about his previous owner, the conditions he was in and how we would not be good parents for him since we work full time, we finally convinced them we could give George a good home. That I have had dogs, cats and any other kind of domestic pet you could think of with special needs and was well prepared for him and was fully committed to him for the next 10 to 15 years. She let us take him home.

All George really needed was for someone to love him and to be in a positive and consistent environment. Jeff and I have had no problems with him. He's a good little boy for only being 12 weeks old and has had a world turmoil. Larry is good with him. At first he was a little pissed, but we make it a point to give hime extra love, keep George out of his private spaces around the house, and to discipline George when he harasses Larry.

So welcome George Lucas (yes, Jeff chose the name). We can't wait for all of you to meet him.

Ps. Please adopt from shelters and support them if you can. We adopted George from a rescue shelter and we were so happy we did it. People suck who buy or adopt animals, then turn them in because it's to much work. The rescue shelter we used was wonderful.

We Came, We Drove, We Conquered

Jeff and I just returned home from North Carolina. For this trip, we drove.

We arrived the day before Mothers Day. The trip took about 11 hours, including a 2 hour stop in Jacksonville to see our friend, Glenn Abbott, who is shooting a movie there. Jeff and I did fine, we came to the conclusion that we will do the drive for North Carolina, but everywhere else in the world, we fly.

We did have a wonderful time with Jeff's parents. Jeff's mom was so excited to see us and have us there for Mothers Day. We took them to church, saw actors at the local theater perform You Can't Take It With You and had dinner at Bogarts. The rest of the trip was spent on day tours of the mountains thanks to Bud, a lot of good food and evening board games. I also got to experience Granny's Fried Chicken Palace. WOW!

The funniest part was being there to see the East Waynesville Baptist Church saga unfold. I made the comment that this was the biggest event to hit Waynesville since the Civil War, and I'm sticking to it. The sad this is that the people (with the exception of the mean Baptists) were so nice and now the country only knows them as gun toting haters of the Democratic Party. My good friend, Sharon D., called me when Jeff and I were on I-95 to tell me to watch my back, they were throwing Democrats out of churches and shooting liberals, I thought she was kidding. She's a W lover, but I won't hold it against her, she makes up for it in other ways.

All in all, we had a great time with Jeff's parents, which was most important to us. The mountains were beautiful, we rested, visited Cold Mountain and I learned how to play Sequence and Dominos. We missed Larry, but he got a present from one of the neighbors. Home grown cat nip. It's already gone.

Ps. Avoid Savannah! We drove to downtown (16) on the way home for a driving break and dinner. The town blows, it's not all it's made out to be, in my opinion. Save yourself the pain and torture that is Savannah, Georgia.

Help!

I'm addicted to my office assistant.

You know how on Microsoft Word you can change your assistant from the paperclip guy to just about almost anything? Well, I chose the little cat and now I can't stop watching him. I can make him do little tricks, and when I leave him alone for a while, he'll fall asleep. He's the cutest! Mostly it's because he reminds me of Larry, I miss my baby so much during the day.

I should change him to the robot or something lame like that, but the I would feel as if Office Larry's feelings would get hurt.
